There are plenty of "true artists" working in photography, but the star/idol system makes it a lot more difficult to find them. For a start, one could go to http://www.photoarts.com/gallery/ and see some beautiful art by photographers. I know this site because of Flor Garduno's work, which is certainly done by an artist working in photography, but she's certainly not the only artist displayed there. There are many others...
