You're kidding, right?  You would take a $1900 lense and put a metal hose 
clamp on it?

That, to me, is like throwing your luggage on top of your Mercedes, while 
you fumble for your keys, dragging it off and then putting it in the trunk. 
 Needless to say, I see a lot of people do it.
