The Domke F? - The Little Bit Smaller - bag comfortably holds two M6s with
wides or normals mounted, three-to-four additional lenses, meter, flash,
film, etc....it's small, tough, has good padding...Yes, it looks like a
camera bag...
My alternative bag is a Timberland weather-proof leather shoulder bag with
web strap, two buckle front pockets, rear flap pocket....TOUGH...depending
upon what you're doing with the equipment and how you pad it, you can use it
with or without an insert...I have an old Billingham insert that allows me
to carry two bodies with lenses, a pair, or perhaps three additonal lenses,
meter, film, flash, etc....I like the bag better than the Domke for general
asthetics, BUT---leather is heavier than cloth...the bag brings its own
weight along.....

I don't know if they're still around, but there used to be a cheap canvas
bag called a Danish School Bag that made a great camera bag...deep,
expandable, cheap, lots of pockets, no padding, but I recall using cloth
diapers, or hand-towels, to create my own padding...now you could use some
sort of camera or lens wraps and accomplish the same thing...a certain LUGer
who may choose to reveal himself has the fancy equivalent of this - an old
Leica canvas bag...VERY nice....

I wish I had read all of this about a month ago. Today, I can tell you
what not to buy. The Targa Tundra looked like a great bag and my M6 and
five lens, meter and flash, plus table top tripod and film all fit like
a glove. The foam was thick and the bag was cheap. Was I lucky or
what? Until, I grabbed it in a hurry one day when I had not fastened
the top cover and everything toppled forward and out of the bag.
Luckily, I was picking it up from the bed in the guest room and no
damage was done. Now I am looking for a new bag that balances nicely
with the strap that is used to carry it over the shoulder. This bag
scares the ---- out of me.
Of all the bags that have been recommended, can they be carried over the
shoulder with the top unfastened for easy access. I often want to
change lens very quickly without having to take it off, place it on the
ground, and unfasten.
Thanks for all the good information for a novice. Charles Cason
