I've had bad luck with ciba as well. I don't know if it's the process itself 
or just the attitude of the guy in the lab. I've been shooting color negs-- 
mostly Fuji-- and printing them myself with wonderful results. I wonder, 
however, if there's a negative film that's the equal of Velvia. .
    Still, one reason to shoot slides is that they are the usual/standard way 
to show pictures  to photo editors or other buyers. Prints just get lost in 
the shuffle.
