Dear Richard,
The instruction book with my HP Photosmart S20 does not give *any*
instructions about connecting to a Macintosh. I'm sure you can work around
it, but I don't have enough skill or experience to help. :(
About the S20, I tried the Nikon Coolscan at the office and a Minolta
Dimage Dualscan and bought the S20, because of the reliability of other HP
equipment I use and because of the price. The S20 is more "fiddly" to use
than the Coolscan and lack of ICE dust and scratch control is a draw back -
but not a big one if you clean your negs - I scan only negs - not slides.
For me the results are good - even excellent - for color negs but for some
of my Black and White negs (self developed) the contrast seems high. This
requires fiddling before you make your final scan. I think the Coolscan
might be a better choice - but more than twice the money here in Hong Kong.
The Minolta was for me a disaster - program incompatibilities made it
virtually impossible to use. Which was too bad, because I wanted to scan
120 transparencies with it.
Cheers
Howard Cummer.
