Rewinding a Nikon F manually was a joy, but removing the entire back to
change films was as much a pain in the a-- as some people feel loading an M
through the bottom is, especially if the motor was attached. I'd hate to
know how many used F's there are out there today with broken rails where the
body & back mate because someone was not careful enough putting it back
together after loading a new film. The F2 was a much better set-up, but You
also needed a back brace to carry one around for any time at all with a
motor, battery pack and lens attached.

I wonder how many photos were missed because the batteries were dead in the
automatic re-wind cameras?

True, Tina...But remember, it was possible to do a pretty fast manual rewind
on the Nikons even if the motor failed - it wasn't until all the useful
manual controls were taken off the cameras that they became doorstops if the
batteries died...:-)
