Depends on your idea of compact, of course, but there's a flash from a 
company you may rarely hear of here... wait for it... ``Leica'', which 
may do the job for you.  Yes, the SF20 is specified to cover a 24mm
lense's field of view with its supplied diffuser attached.

Now... the SF20 isn't quite as teensy as one itsy Olympus and some
miscellaneous Phoenixes and the like I've seen;  it's not cheap;  and
it eats CR123 batteries, which are a mite less ubiquitous than AAs.
And it only points straight ahead.

But it's much smaller and lighter than, say, the Nikon SB28 (which is
considered compact in some circles), it has good automation controls,
and those CR123 batteries are champs for power density.

You takes your choice and you pays your money.
