Gerry,
I just tried this, find a 14127 (R-body to M-lens), and then add a screw to 
M-bayonet adapter.
I was surprised to see you could still focus at all, but my guess of the 
focus being on the front element wasn't far off. You have focus some 2-3mm 
off the front element, and a fingertip pretty well fills the frame.
