If you want to take street scenes at night the f1.4 is the way to go. It is
almost up to noctilux low light potential, being wider but only 1 stop
slower, but has less vignetting and is sharper.

[Austin] What vignetting? I am also curious why you say it's sharper? I
don't have a 50/1.4, but it would be hard to believe it's sharper...but
perhaps it is...

Austin I was talking about the 35 summilux (see subject line in my post)
and the note in the snipped part of my message above pointing out that it
is wider. I did not mention a 50/1.4 once.
To be more clear, in comparing the noctilux and 35 summilux aspherical (the
subject of the post i was replying to) At the same light level with both
wide open the f1.4 will require half the shutter speed of the f1, often
entirely practical.
Apart from the obvious difference in angle of view, and I like 35 and 50
about equally myself, the resulting pictures will have the following
differences:-
The noctilux has a glow the 35 aspherical does not have
The noctilux vignettes much more than the 35 aspherical
The 35 aspherical is noticeably sharper.

On your point comparing the f1.4 and f1 50,s I only compare at wider
apertures (stopped down most lenses are pretty good) the 1.4 is sharper
than the noctilux (except at f1 ;) )
