I have the opportunity to buy a used Telyt-R 250mm f4 in near mint
condition. This example is the early version, short with non-rotating
tripod bush. This lens was manufactured between 1970-79 according to my
Leica pocket book.

I would appreciate any comment regarding this lens. The asking price
converts to about $600 USD.

The price seems high to me, unless you're buying from a reputable dealer
with a guarantee. Check the completed auctions on eBay; I think they're
selling for about $400 when they're selling at all. I'm using the later
version, with close focus under 2 meters and rotating tripod collar. Since
I'm using the lens with the shoulder stock to photograph small, active
birds both the close focus and rotating tripod collar are very important to
me. I don't know how the 2 versions compare optically. The late version
is clearly not an APO lens but overall I am quite pleased with it's optical
performance.
