On another note, I know there was some talk about shooting in India not long
ago, although I didn't catch anything specifically about protecting your
gear from dust, elements and the like. I'm going there in two weeks and I'd
be thankful for any advice at all anyone can offer .

I was in India just about a year ago. I arrived in Madras (Chennai) around
this time and remained in India or Nepal untill early April. I traveled
all over India, mainly by rail. It never rained. Dust was everywhere,
but, never a wind driven duststorm. I kept my Leica gear in a small Pelican
brand box with foam cushions and an air-tight seal. However, this was
mostly for security rather than environmental concern. I carried a mf
camera and a few compact 35mms in a vest. I don't recall any problems with
environmental cponditions at all. Have a great trip.
