The other point about critic and the R8 is that you should use it as a
manual camera, and compare others the same way. As a manual camera, I find
it second to none I've ever used. Its easy to use in manual, and this make
me think --- and that can sometimes help ;-)

I encourage anyone to put a long f4 or lower lens on an F100, and then do
the same with the R8. You will swear someone turned the lights up when you
put the R8 to your eye...

As someone who has long posted criticisms of the R8, and whose current
most-used SLR is an F100, let me add that the viewfinder of the R8 is
magnificient. It is wonderful to look through, the best I've experienced on
an SLR. It's more than a bright image, it's as though the surrounding black
is deeper with fewer reflections, making the scene seem brighter by
comparison. Like seeing a movie in a perfectly blackened theater. That is
one part of the camera Leica unquestionably got right.
