This is incorrect, well sorta incorrect.... The way to check the alignment of ANY measuring device is to ROTATE it 180 degrees and see if it measures the same. If not, adjust until it does.........to wit: Measure the alignment of the enlarger, placing the tool on the baseboard. Note that the reflected dot is (let's assume) 1 inch towards the column from the cross hairs. ROTATE tool 180 degrees ( this means turn it so the tool faces up still, but the front and back are reversed.) Measure again. The reflected dot should be at the same relative place as the first measurement. 1 Inch towards the column. If this is not correct, the toll needs adjustment ( and it comes with a tiny allen wrench to perform the alignment.) The theory is that you are using the physical alignment of the non- moving mirror and baseboard as the standard. It works on levels too,,,,,,, Frank
