If one doesn't let one's politics get in the way of all of one's 
non-political judgements and opinions, one might realize that the photo in 
question is iconic in nature and is familiar to virtually every Baby Boomer 
- - which is probably why it was chosen....

To paraphrase James Carvill - whom I am sure you abhor : It's the 
photograph, stupid!
