The best intro is a little book called _The Zone VI Workshop_ by Fred
Picker--very simple and easy to understand. After that, buy and study
Ansel's _The Negative_ (the best of his technical books and really the
only one most photographers need to own). From there, get _Beyond The
Zone System_ by Phil Davis, which usefully refines the sensitometic
concepts and corrects most of the faults of the Adams book.
