I am jumping in this discussion late, but I agree that a Leica rangefinder works well for photographing sports, For many years I photographed football games with my Leica M3 and 90 mm lens. I could keep both eyes open and watch the action and release the shutter precisely at the peak of the action. I lost that degree of control when I upgraded to a Canon SLR with auto everything. I learned that a 300 mm shot taken slightly off the peak of action is not as effective and powerful as is a grainy highly enlarged picture taken at the precise moment. Glen Robinson
