Yes, its that easy.  Yes, you can set any aperture.  I wrote a review for the 
LHSA Viewfinder on the SF20 two issues ago.  Pop Photo had it wrong in their 
recent review.  The aperture number set on the flash is merely used to 
calculate the distance the flash will go to on TTL automatic.  I think the 
confusion comes from the SF20 instruction book, which has some poorly written 
sections.  Fooled some august members of the VF editorial staff, too.  That's 
why I had to write the review to clear up some of these misconceptions.
