Which means that in addition to the metered reading I don't do a couple of underexposures and a couple of overexposures, but just one additional exposure. At least for black and white, it is usually sufficient to make one additional exposure if you are unsure. Go two stops away from the meter reading as the film and multigrade papers can easily handle one stop off exposures. I generally overexpose in relation to the metered reading. That takes care of bright spots in the metered area. Anyway living up north as I do, bright light is not generally the commonest of problems. But lacking shadow details are. This thread has brought a lot of interesting stuff, thanks to all contributors. (Martin: Mee too, I will never buy a sling either. This advertising is contraproductive.)
