Subject: [Leica] STRANGE RING

Hi lugers.
About 10 years ago , I bought a second hand TELE-ELMARIT 2.8 / 90 for my M6 . 
On the lens was the rubber hood # 11250.
On the hood was screwed some kind of a ring , sort of UV filter but without 
the glass , marked CANADA 11251 on one side and 5.5 on the other side. 
Has anybody got an idea of what it is ?
