It has to flip up out of the way of the light from the lens. A mirror that is larger by only a small amount can mean the body has to be quite a bit bigger, and thus heavier. It's a little like saying, "One sailboat is 38 feet long and one is 41 feet long. How much could three feet weigh?" But of course the entire boat has to have larger proportions, so a slightly longer boat might in fact be much larger (and more expensive). - --Mike
