Pukka or duff gen (from GENeral information)

What's the gen (or what's the buzz if you are from a Royal Naval background)
= what's the scoop - in colloquial use - make sense?

So, "what's the gen on the new Leica M autofocus?" Could be pukka gen, could
be duff gen?

(though I must say, I only ever really heard the word pukka used by cavalry
officers in the mess of the 14th/20th Hussars and such like. Duff gen would
be more general usage).

Interesting that the word "buzz" has now developed a hip NY meaning. I used
to hear this from a friend at college 15 years ago, who was Captain of the
Sir Tristram in the Falklands War.

To get ever so slightly on topic (photography at least) - he had a
photograph on the wall in his college office taken by a news photographer on
shore whilst his ship was unloading troops. It showed an Argentine jet
flying across his deck between the masts. He pointed out he had been on the
bridge at the time and was basically looking down on the pilot! A similar
thing happened a few days later to the Sir Galahad, but this time the
Argentines hit the target, which also included a large number of Welsh
Guards.

A damn good photograph from Margaret Thatcher's pathetic little war. (The
war was pathetic, the soldiers did their job).

Tim A - way off topic here
