Thanks to all those that responded to my flash query (no less than 7 replies 
in a few hours!).

The consensus is to either use neutral density filters to effective reduce 
the ASA of my film or get someone to hold a reflector. I think I like the 
reflector idea better (aluminum foil on cardboard sounds cheaper than ND 
filters for my ancient lenses).
