Any suggestions as to the best areas of park to explore >with the Leica? The canyons in Zion are deep and narrow. If you are at the bottom of one during sunrise/sunset, you will miss it. In some areas, the rock is already reddish, and the color is intensified by the reddish, low-angled light of sunrise. (I was just at Mt. Whitney (which is _not_ in Zion) and got some shots of the gray granite glowing a fiery red from the first direct sun rays - the red rock in Zion should become even more fiery.) Some spots along the main road, east of the visitor center, are more open, and feature some awesome cliff faces. If you go to the east edge of the park, the color of the stone turns from red to gray. It's too bad you don't have more time - Bryce Canyon is a short drive away. But, you can easily spend a week in Zion! Have fun! Mike - -- Michael Chmilar chmilar@acm.org
