To the best of my knowledge the stand is provided by the hotel.  All the
arrangements for the slide shows are made by the program director, I have
nothing to do with it.  I agree with your idea.  I use a very heavy tripod
with a platform that I made mounted on top and run my projector up to the
middle of the screen so there is no parallex problem.
