Eric et alii,

	The man in question was Ira Hays and he did indeed come to a sad end
after his moment of fame for being among the brave men raising the flag on
Iwo Jima.

Don't know about that. There was a movie about the Native American who was 
in that flag raising. He had a tough time of it later.
