I asked Leica Canada about updating a 280 2.8 to ROM and they said it was not worth the cost as it only really offers a 1/6th stop better accuracy on the aperture values. This is something nobody would notice. Pascal also noted that it may tell the program mode of the camera what the focal length of the lens is.
