Subject: [Leica] M6 User @ London

Dears,

Would you to tell me how are prices in London comparing to New York.
My father is leaving Buenos Aires to London in a couple of weeks and I´d
like
him to acquire a cheap M6 in user condition with 35 mm Summicron or
Summaron.
He does not have to much time to waste in finding the stuff so I´ll
apreciate any heklping you could give us, addresses of leica/photo
stores...used leica stores and so on...

In advance, thanks

Pablo

Pablo,

My fairly recent (May) experience buying Leica gear in London is different
from Nathan's. I found that prices for many items were below US dealer's and
Shutterbug ad prices. Example: I bought a mint condition BM 2.8 Collapsible
Elmar with front and rear caps for the equivalent of $250.00. I also bought
a Billingham "Alice" bag from Classic Camera for $90.00 US. These were from
the stores in the Pied Bull Yard across the street from the British Museum.
Both Jessop and Classic Camera had a good selection of vintage Leica, Rollei
and Nikon equipment. Many of the Leica items at Jessop were on consignment
from individuals and, as such, were only negotiable to a minimum established
by the seller. Also, the more recent the consignment was made, the lower the
price reflecting the changing conditions. Above prices include VAT tax of
10 - 11%, I believe which is refundable when you leave England.

Ran into a vacationing LA Times staff photographer on Westminster Bridge and
he eyed my M6/35mm ASPH and said he was saving for one and that all the
paper gives them to use are Nikon N90s with a zoom lens but that they are
moving rapidly to digital.

Looking forward to meeting many of you at LHSA in October.
