Dan,

You're right about the B&W paper.  Kodak has Ektamax and recently, Mitsubishi 
also has come out with a chromogenic paper.  It is roughly triple the cost of 
color paper.  Very expensive, but it does give very good results for making 
B&W prints from either color or B&W negs.
