I wish I could find the fairly recent Kodak ad to the effect that the
combination of film and a scanner is a great way to store high res "digital"
images.

On the other hand, once CCD res goes to 4k x 4k and such a device fits into
a film canister, and/or becomes cheap enough for a throw away camera,
digital film will become a practical reality. Until that time, conventional
film is much more cost effective.
