Flat panel displays use a subset of the "true color" 16 million colors you
get on your CRT.  The number of colors has probably gone up since I was in
the business of selling the display chips, but 3 years ago it was typically
64,000 total colors available.  The chip maker maps the full 16 M colors to
the 67K  colors available, eliminating quite a lot of colors.  For office
work, no big deal.  For Graphics work, like image processing, a real big
deal!  Stick with the CRT for intensive and accurate color graphics and
especially image manipulation or evaluation work.
