Before I started carrying lead-lined bags everywhere, I was forced to put
TMZ film through the machines at Heathrow. I pleaded, cried, and took the
supervisor's name, but nothing did any good. The film was badly fogged
with streaks from the metal cannisters very evident - totally unusable. I
sent examples to the supervisor, but never heard anything in return. Other
times when I have had to send film through more than one x-ray machine (in
Jordan and in Moscow) there has been noticeable fogging of 400 ISO film,
but I was able to salvage it in Photoshop. There is no point in taking
chances. I almost always have to go through more than one x-ray machine
(in Newark I ended up going through 3 just changing planes!). In the US
the inspectors have to hand-examine your film if you ask, but not in other
countries. I will always carry lead-lined bags or ship my film ahead when
possible. I love travel, but hate airports!!

Leically,

Tina
