Canon made loads of different 35s and probably more than one 28. I've not used a 28 (but a couple of 25s) and have tried a couple of 35s too. The 35/2, their last lens was reckoned to be the equal of a contemporary Summicron (early 60's) that was probably their estimation as well as the book writer, others on this list reckoned its predecessor, the 35/1.8 was no slouch either. I have a 35/2.8 if you're looking for one. Or you can look at it this way:- If you have the smallest amount of camera shake, your Summicron, Noctilux, Apo-Asph Superwidgitflex (whatever) ends up with all the clarity of a plastic lens from China. Which translated means, put your quest into better camera technique with whatever tools you can lay hold of, and most importantly develop a 'seeing eye' that places the picture ahead of the specification and technicalities. If you go to an Cartier Bresson exhibition the number of blurred, imprecisely focused shots are surprising, but the pictures are no less wonderful, it is that which makes a photograph worth watching, rather than the sharpness of the print.
