At its worst, the bubonic plague is estimated to have killed about =
three
fourths of the population of Europe.=A0 If another plague claimed the =
same
proportion, I would expect that it wouldn't reduce the price of new =
Leica
gear, in fact, because of labour shortages, the cost of new gear would
rise.=A0 However, the lower demand might force a steep reduction in the =
cost
of used Leica equipment to those unfortunate enough to survive.

Oh, come now!=A0 The metric system is responsible more than anything =

=A0Dr. Blacktape Feels The Need To Comment, As This Post Refers To The =
Black
Death...
=A0
If history is any guide, we can expect that those hardest hit by a new =
Black
Death would be the urban poor, living as they do in crowded, unsanitary
conditions. Given that few of them own Leicas - or even LTM imitations =
- - it
is unlikely that a new Black Death=A0 would result in a lowering of the =
price
of used Leica gear. Sorry, Buzz.
=A0
(Now a major economic crash, that's another matter....)=A0
=A0
=A0
I don't like to argue about plagues with a Doctor, but if three =
quarters of
the population were taken by a pandemic, it would most certainly eat =
into
the population of Leica users.=A0 I don't expect the next plague to be =
the
Black Death, indeed, bubonic plague is now eminently treatable.=A0 The =
next
plague is likely to be a rapidly moving virus which will be able to =
jump
populations because of our inability to control it...much like the
indiscriminate influenza epidemics of the early part of the Twentieth
Century.=A0 It is true, that the best prophylaxis against early death =
is
wealth, but the broad band of Leica users will not be immune because we =
have
already dissipated our wealth on cameras and lenses.
