Hi, John and Andre.  I have the same impression.  I would say that the 80
has a "softer effect" at wide open which may be effective in portraits.
From 2.8, I can tell little difference.  Overall, the two lenses have
similar fingerprints and differ from a Minolta 85/1.4, another short
telephoto lens I like.
