Subject: Re: [Leica] Which choice of Leica Pradovit projectors?

Pascal,

I have a 2002P Pradovit projector with both the 90 CF and 90 Supercolorplan
FF lenses. Up to now I have been getting slides back in cardboard mounts.
It looks like I will be getting plastic mounts in the future. I can't
really see a whole lot of difference between the two lenses, but I believe
the Supercolorplan is a little better - slightly sharper and slightly more
contrast. However, if I didn't directly compare the two I probably
couldn't tell the difference. I do have a problem with the cardboard
slides that are projected . First there is no question that if the slides
are glass mounted (which I no longer do) the Super would be the lens to
have. Also on plastic mounted slides the FF Super is some better than the
CF. Even in the plastic mount the film is not entirely flat and pops more
than in the cardboard mount. The CF lens does fairly well with the
cardboard mounts but does not match perfectly so I have just put the FF
Super on the projector for all my slides (I'm lazy). The edges and corners
are not entirely sharp.

I have been using Kodachrome since the 40's but I do not have a place in
Dallas that I can get to easily that has a Kodak pick-up service. Rather
than get mailers (which is also not all that easy) I have switched to E200
and Elitechrome 100 and will see how that does. If most of your slides
come back in plastic mounts I think that the FF Super would be your best
bet. It is a superb lens.

BTW I project on a 60x60 matt screen. I had an RT300 (made by Singer) that
I really liked but had a few problems with and gave it to my daughter. I
bought a Kodak Ektographic IV instead, in which I used the former Leica
projection lens in a sleve. When the Pradovit 2002P came along I took the
RT300 back and sold it to a Lugger who has had pretty good luck with it.
(and who also lives within easy driving distance with the best RT300 repair
person in the USA, I believe) I gave the Kodak to my daughter and bought
the 2002P. This was several years ago. I miss the stack loader that works
on the RT300 - and Kodaks - but saved a lot of shelf space going to the
straight trays, over the round ones. I have been very happy with the 2002P
and have had no troubles (or buzzing noises) with it. The 2002P and
Supercolorplan FF 90/2.5 just can't be beaten, IMO.

Hope that this helps.
