Just because a lens hood is cylindrical doesn't mean it won't work for a wide
angle. Many wide angle lens hoods are of this design, I'd be very surprised if
it didn't work. Of course if its too long it will vignette the edges, and if
its too wide it won't be effective, but it could well be worth a try, many
'standard' lens hoods work well on 35mm lenses.
