But why do you feel the purpose of the M concept contradicts digital media ? I feel quite the opposite: a M mount on a compact digital viewfinder based body would make plenty of sense to me. As soon as the CCD or CMOS performances become sufficient to start justifying Leica lens performances, which would be in the coming months... Meanwhile, I would really like to read an official Leica statement garanteeing mount compatibility with R or/and M for any future portable (as opposed to studio) digital hardware. It would also be nice and reassuring to see prototypes and spec sheet drafts of such hardware, even if those were only wooden dummies. Just something to show that they care about the future ;-/ After all Leica has not hesitated to publish spec sheets and images of a certain motor drive that is taking some time to appear ;-) The competition (Nikon, Canon, Minolta) is, and has been for years, very careful in securing a future-proof image on that crucial matter, with real life products that are currently used by a lot of professionals. Even if some of the more seductive products are sometimes quite late to hit the stores. The aborted Digilux initiative does not really give the right signals !
