Subject: Re: [Leica] Photography and Prague

Prague is the reason I am a LUGger today. Five years ago, my three sons
(then ages 16, 18 and 19) and I spent a wonderful, all too short stay in
Prague. Near the Jewish cemetery memorial, a street vendor sold me an old
Zorki S, which started my curiosity in older Leica gear, which led to LHSA,
which helped land me on the LUG.

We rented a car for our two weeks' vacation, mostly in Germany, so were able
to stay at a great little pension on a lake outside Prague, keeping costs
down, while also enjoying the hospitality of the family that ran it. Bruce,
or anyone else visiting, it's a great little place with the following
address:

Pension Hubacov
Mlok Spol S.R.O
Hrussce c 74
251 66 Senohraby
phone (011 42) 6837398

Since we did not make reservations early enough, they could only host us for
one night, but made all arrangements for us to stay at rooms at an ice
hockey rink with simple rooms a few miles away. Then, when my youngest son
forgot his passport at the Hubacov, one of the family drove over the next
day to personally deliver it where we were staying!

I envy Bruce getting to stay a peel back some of the layers of Prague. I
have some fine Leica photos of our visit, and some great memories, too. I
have been keeping in touch with the Czech Republic with an e-mail
subscription to "Carolina" a well-written newsletter by students from
Charles University in Prague. Be sure to take some time, Bruce, in and
around the university buildings, and say a little prayer at the memorial
there to the brave, freedom-loving students who died during the Prague
Spring ( http://www.centraleurope.com/ceo/special/spring68/galuska.html ) of
1968, when I was also a young student not too far away at the University of
Tuebingen in Germany. Here's the subscription info:

Have been mostly lurking on the LUG lately, with too many undone projects. I
did finish the 160 16x20 Cibachromes for the new Holiday Inn, am still
flying the aerial photography for Humboldt State University over some of the
most beautiful terrain you can imagine, and will be hanging a Northcoast
color landscape exhibit in two weeks along side 15 or 20 original Ansel
Adams prints - talk about pressure to do my best!

Isn't it amazing where a little Leica will take you!?
