I would agree, but there is a huge difference in price and for what you pay for an R8 you should not get a dead one out of the box. I had the same trouble with a Rebel G I bought for my son. The built-in flash was dead out of the box. My dealer promptly replaced it and its been fine ever since. That's OK with a $250 camera but I think I would have been far more angry if it was a $1500 camera body and it was dead out of the box. Peter K - -----Original Message----- From: Robert G. Tom: I had a dead out of the box EOs Elan IIe last year. I brought it back to the dealer the next morning and he gave me another one. I think where Leica gets the bad PR quality is that most people do not have dealers with the stock to simply hand them a new camera off the shelf but have to wait until their camera is repaired or a replacement arrives. I imagine Leica prefers to repair the cameras, while Canon may just accept the duds back from the dealers and dispose of them rather than repair.
