Subject: Re: [Leica] A scarred summicron

Jonathan,

Last year I found a 1954 screw mount Summicron 50/2.0 at my
grandfather's house. The lens was mint in every way except it had a
very scratched front element. The pictures I got from this lens were
very soft.

With the advice I received from this list, I sent the lens to John van
Stelten at Focal Point. He polished and re-coated its front element, as
well as CLA'd the rest of the lens. The cost came to a very reasonable
$175. I am glad to say the lens is now better than new, as it now has
modern hard coating on its front element which is no longer as prone to
scratches as before.

You can contact John at focalpt@ecentral.com

Cheers,
Joseph
