It may well be a coating problem, but the East Germans were at the
forefront of coating technologies -- after all, they DID develop it! -- so,
I would suppose it to be an unavoidable degradation of the coatings.

Have the glasses CLA'd.  If the mechanic suggests, have them recoated.
Simple problem, simple solution.
