I have had a pair for years and can tell you that they are considerably 
brighter than the very expensive Steiner binoculars. We used them both for 
years on our sailboat and the Steiners were good but not as good. Leitz does 
not make a comparable product (I do't think). I also have a couple pairs of 
Nikon binoculars "made in occupied Japan" - they are very good - better, in 
fact , than my military Bausch and Lomb 6X30 made up new from WWII surplus 
parts.  And so it goes...
