If lens speed is not an overriding > factor, is the older lens a good buy? The problem with the otherwise wonderful APO 180/3,4 is the focusing range. To 2,50m instead of 1,50m on the new APO 180/2,8 and on APO-Summicron 180/2. It's really annoying. (1,70m on the APO 70-180/2,8 , 1,80m on the older 180/2,8 and 180/4, and 1,10m on the new 80-200/4) IMO, if you intend to make portraits or close-up, it will be wiser to save for the new APO 180/2,8 or to buy the just discontinued 180/2,8. The 80-200/4 is also an excellent lens, much more versatile. Or an APO-Macro-Elmarit 100/2,8 with the APO-Extender 2X. = APO 200/5,6 with focusing range to 0,45m. ;-) Lucien
