Joseph,

Not likely. I have both the 40MZ-3i and 40MZ-1i and they both had problems.
Leica seems to not be interested in fixing it. Leica refuses (more than one
time) to give Metz/Bogen an M6 TTL to test with the 40MZ-3i. Guess they want
to make sure they only sell their own flash.

As to the hot shoe cable, the one I referred to has several contact
basically duplicating the shoe at the other end of a cord, not a standard
hot shoe. These are generally used for TTL when you use a bracket. Canon
makes one specifically for their cameras, a colleague uses a generioc one
made by Hama that works fine too! It has a center X-sync and 4 other
contacts one in each of the 3 corners. They are large enough to accomodate
a connection from most TTL flashes that use a hot shoe.

Peter,

Is there any chance that your SCA 3501 module is faulty? I have had a
few SCA module failures but the flash units have always been reliable.

The Nikon SC-17 off-camera TTL cord will work perfectly with either the
M6 TTL or R8. A standard hot-shoe to hot-shoe socket cable will not
provide TTL flash control.
