They are not water resistant but then neither is any other camera :-)
The M6 can get slightly damp - a rain storm - without hurting any
complicated electronics.  But if you drop it in a river or spend 8 hours in
a canoe in the rainy season in Honduras, it has to go back to Leica.  I
have one there now that spent less than 2 seconds underwater.  It's costing
me about $1000 to get it repaired.  However, I would not have carried any
other camera into similar situations.
