Back in the late '70's when I was at Art College (if only I'd had the nerve
to drop out and be bohemian as well...) there was a rebel in the Photography
course who had splashed out on a new OM1 and wanted to prove its worth.
5"x4" excercises were set and students returned their work, he got a good
grade and then revealed to the tutor he'd taken it on his OM1! The tutor
then deducted his marks insisting it was the skill he was learning (that was
important) rather than the finished result.
I can't remember whether he successfully appealed.
So they must have something going for them, just think what he could have
eachieved with Leitz lenses...
