Subject: [Leica] R8 goes back!

Well, Monday I had to return my R8 body. I noticed on the preceeding Friday,
that when I switched the camera to OFF, it did not shuy OFF. Instead it went
into PROGRAM mode! If I let it alone for a while, it would automatically
shut off. I could turn it back on and everything seemed fine until I turned
it OFF. It sure doesn't leave you with a good feeling. To make matters
worse, while out shooting Saturday and Sunday, the camera would shut down by
itself. This usually happened while composing vertical shots. When I cycled
the OFF switch, things came back. Again, I really didn't feel good about the
situation. I called Eric at Tamarkin and he agreed to an exchange.
Hopefully, I'll see another body Friday.

I have to admit, I LOVE THE R8, but it just doesn't seem to be reliable. I
got my credit card bill today, and I sure had to think about dumping the
whole darn thing. I charged the R8, 35f2(used), 80f1.4(used) and the R8
Winder. I was sure the R8 could pay for itself (or some part), but how can
it when it doesn't even want to work?

Anyway, I hate to be bringing the group down with my Leica woes, but it sure
seems like others have had the same problems with the R8.
