You had to hold the button in while you rewound the film. The later version of the Button rewind had a clickstop on it, you just had to push it in and it stayed in - much improved. The lever rewind is my ideal one - I still have a M2 push button that I use as a back up camera and also as a testbench in the shop for fitting drives and locks on the M2 Rapidwinder. In general I don't think there is any major mechanical differences between the early and late M2's. My current crop ranges from # 960 xxx to 1153xxx and my preferences are more related to the smoothness of the advance and the brightness of the finder. I never use the MR meter, it tends to get bashed up when I drop the camera in the bag, particularly if there are other cameras in it. I am probably the only person who has metermarks on the top plate of one of my M6HM's - it happened to be a bit to close to the M2 and MR meter at one time and the top plate on the M6 took the brunt of the impact! I usually carry the little Sekonic 308B, great meter and it uses a standard AAA battery that seems to last forever. Tri-X is very forgiving anyway! I wonder if eight M2's equals a M16 in fire power? All the best, Tom A
