Sorry if this is off post but....

Seems to me, before DARPA Net (or whatever it was called) there was the SAGE
system. The semi-automatic ground environment allowed NORAD to monitor the
ballistic missile early warning system (BMEWS) and other such stuff. About
10 miles from where I live is a SAGE base (closed) that watched the skys
over central Canada and the great lakes. I am sure they did a lot more. The
significant feature I remember was that the system had a weapons controler
who could link up with the interceptor aircraft and monitor its intercept of
an adversay. The controler could even take control of the aircraft and
launch the aircraft's weapons. All these bases were networked together, and
this easily goes back to the late 50's, early 60's.  So, the internet could
easily be 40 years old.
