Yes, you can use this and it will work just fine.

Subject: [Leica] Vivitar 283 flash with R8 question.

I was wondering if anyone knows if I can safely use my Vivitar 283 flash
with the R8? I have the hotshoe replaced by a dead, reinforced shoe and use
a PC cord to trigger the usit. Kind of handy, since I can hand-hold the
flash for bounce flash work. I would expect the trigger voltage would be
too high for the camera's hot shoe synch trigger, but what about the PC
socket? I thought I read somewhere in this group that the R8 had trouble
with studio flash syncs destroying the electronics.

Any information here would be appreciated as I'll wait to use the V283 until
I get some feedback.
